COVID-19 Variants, Vaccines, and Safety Measures

As a provider of home care in Vancouver, British Columbia, it important for us to give you reliable information about the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Coronavirus disease started in Wuhan, China, in 2019. Since then, the virus has been infecting and killing millions of people while continuously mutating. New COVID-19 variants began appearing and more variants are expected to occur over time.

On December 2020, the B.1.1.7 variant emerged in the UK. It has been found to spread more quickly and easily than the other variants and may be associated with an increased risk of death.

Another variant has been identified in South Africa called the B.1.351. It was first detected in early October of 2020, but cases only started spiking in the US at the end of January 2021.

Then, another variant emerged in Brazil on January 2021—the P.1 variant with 17 unique mutations.

Fortunately, the US FDA authorized the Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna to distribute and administer COVID-19 vaccines throughout America. Two shots are required for the best results. Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are administered 21 days apart, while Moderna’s are 28 days apart.

Although vaccines are now available, we still need to follow the health and safety protocol established by the CDC and WHO. Seniors and those with underlying health conditions are still at high risk for COVID-19, so make sure to pay extra attention. Be more vigilant and more cautious. Hiring a provider of senior home care in Vancouver can help your seniors stay safe and healthy at home.
